Affiliate Marketing Mistakes - Are You Making These 3 Errors That Keep Affiliate Success Away?

Maybe affiliate marketing really used to be as easy as they say. Put up a link in your resource box, and count the wads of cash appearing in your PayPal account.

Well... maybe there has been money in your PayPal account, and you have received quite a few of those blue ClickBank checks, but it's just not nearly as easy as they say.

The problem is, it's very easy to make mistakes. Here are three that most commonly derail budding affiliate marketers on their path to riches.

1) You sign up for every program that crosses your path

How many can you REALLY promote? You'll get confused and do nothing. So... nothing will happen. Pick a few select ones that you're really excited about (and that have fantastic products that you know personally) and promote the heck out of them.

2) You think all it takes is an article with a link in the resource box

Ha! I wish it were so easy. One article will hardly create a blip unless you're very lucky. Try 30 articles. With well-chosen long-tailed keywords. Long-tailed what? Instead of saying "online dating" try "online dating for stamp collectors" or whatever. Be more specific. And that's just the beginning.

Eventually, you'll want hundreds of articles out there. But don't feel intimidated. Writing them gets much easier once you get the hang of it. And you can really maximize their effectiveness by making sure they provide quality information, have strategically crafted titles, summaries, and resource boxes, and by marketing them correctly.

 3) You think if you lead them to the sales page, they'll buy

Not! I wish. In fact, I've led thousands to an allegedly well-converting sales page of a major guru, and sold about 3 copies of that product. Well, by now, we've probably all heard the statistics that even IF they'll eventually buy, they'll do so after maybe seeing the ad 7 or more times. And of course, all those thousands of people you drove there are lost to you forever.

What to do? Get their contact info. Then, if they want to go on and buy the product, that's great. But if they don't, you can send them an occasional reminder email (interspersed with plenty of valuable information of course), and so, eventually, they really may end up buying the product -- and earning you that commission.
